Talk of the Town: Seat belt enforcement nets 2,640!
Maui County had a two-week “Click It Or Ticket” campaign starting on May 11th where police officers really cracked down on seat belt and child restraint violations. The fine for a seat belt violation is $102 and a child restraint violation requires a court appearance (don’t forget that there is also a $97 fine for having kids younger than 12 in the bed of a pickup truck – I see this all too often!).
By May 25th there were 2,640 cited violations for these laws. Over two thousand! Can you believe that? That’s in only TWO weeks! Lt. William Gannon, the commander of the Traffic Section, stated, “As we approach the summer vacation season, we want to make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash: buckling up.” The campaign may be over, but don’t let dismissing a simple “chore” put your life at risk. Better to spend this summer at the beach than at Maui Memorial!

Not only is this a great read for all, but it’s a personal favorite because I LOVE gardening! My husband and I just built 4 new raisedgarden beds and plan on building more. Upcountry Maui has amazing soil and everything grows crazy fast! Sadly, not everyone lives where they have to trim their kale every two days, but not matter where you live there are many factors that come into play when choosing what to put in your garden. Sun vs. shade? Cool season vs. warm season? Seeds vs. plants? So many choices!

Can you believe how ADORABLE this little girl is? This grandmomma is overjoyed to be looking after little baby Ashlynn Rose. She is happy, healthy, and eating like a champ! Ashlynn looks exactly like my how my daughter looked when she was born. I am one lucky girl!
